In the heart of Woollahra lies Lough Playing Fields, a hidden gem and cherished community hub where families gather, children play, and residents find solace in nature's embrace. However, the tranquility of this beloved park is being threatened by Woollahra Council's plans to replace the only passive green space in the park with bitumen and acrylic, sparking widespread concern among locals.
As advocates for protecting dwindling green spaces, it's crucial for us to unite and oppose this encroachment. Lough Playing Fields isn't just a place for recreation for many groups including walking groups, dog walkers, soccer players, cricketers, bubble soccer, picnickers, sunbathers etc; it's an escape from urban chaos, a sanctuary for wildlife and a vital green space for our community's well-being and when these activies cease the green space is returned to passive green space.
A passionate group has formed to prevent the council from covering passive green space with bitumen and acrylic.
By signing the petition and voicing opposition to councillors you can help stop this destruction.
The council's plans are now under review, with decisions pending on whether to proceed to public consultation, expected around March 2025.
We must act swiftly to ensure Lough Playing Fields remains a green oasis for both present and future generations. Together, we can safeguard our green spaces, ensuring they continue to enrich our community's life.
The map below shows the green spaces in the Woollahra LGA - this map is from the Woollahra Council website There are very few remaining green spaces (especillay passive green spaces) left especially when you remove the RSGC. We need to protect these precious spaces.
